2020 Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select

This blend of grapes comes from the benchlands of Cakebread's vineyards in Oakville and Rutherfordincluding Hill Ranch, which surrounds the Rutherford home of Jack and Dolores Cakebread. Benchlands are the narrow regions that mark the transition from a valleys floor to steeper mountain slopes. This geographic position offers distinctive soil profiles for good root development, as well as mountain shade that protects grapes from extreme conditions, allowing them to ripen slowly and steadily.

The 2020 vintage began with a mild winter and long spring, setting up our vines for a warm season. Consistently high summer temperatures coupled with drought conditions led to a naturally small and high-quality harvest of deeply colored and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon ideal for cellaring. This wine 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in French oak barrels, 60% new.

Dark fruit notes of blueberry and plum on the nose with hints of dried oregano. On the palate, this Cabernet segues from dark fruit notes to savory undertones, while showing off a silky texture. Full-bodied and dense in structure, the wines long finish is driven by firm tannins plus hints of cocoa and vanilla.
