About the Winery
Nickel & Nickel Winery was founded with the vision of producing extraordinary single-vineyard Napa Valley wines. Specializing in low-production wines from unique sub-appellations across Napa Valley, each wine reflects the distinct terroir of its vineyard. The John C. Sullenger Vineyard, the home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, is located behind the winery in the heart of Oakville. Named after John C. Sullenger, who settled the land in the 1880s, this vineyard plays a pivotal role in crafting Nickel & Nickel’s signature wines.
Winemaking
The John C. Sullenger Vineyard spans 30 acres of clay loam soil, all of which are planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard’s ideal location in Oakville, combined with meticulous viticultural practices, produces wines with ultra-ripe fruit and the classic structure for which Oakville Cabernets are known. The 2022 vintage is no exception, showcasing the expert balance of vibrant fruit, subtle spice, and earthy undertones, achieved through careful vinification and aging in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
The 2022 John C. Sullenger Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a captivating bouquet of red plum and raspberry, complemented by hints of spice and earth. On the palate, layers of juicy red fruit, including black cherry and plum, blend seamlessly with rich tobacco, spicy anise, and a touch of toasted oak. Classic Oakville tannins provide structure, while lively acidity lifts the flavors, leading to a long, seductive finish with nuances of soft oak and spice.
